You will start in Dar es Salaam with a city tour and then spend the rest of your trip touring the African savanna.
Day 1: Dar Es Salaam
You will be picked up at your desired location (airport, ferry, hotel, etc.) and time and then transferred to the Best Western Plus Colosseum Hotel. You will then go on a tour of Dar es Salaam. Day 3: Saadani National Park
Located in the centre of the historic triangle of Bagamoyo, Pangani and Zanzibar, Saadani National Park covers 1100 km2 and is the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania bordering the sea. The climate here is coastal, hot and humid. It offers a unique combination of both marine and mainland flora and fauna in a culturally fascinating setting. About 30 species of larger mammals live here as well as numerous reptiles and birds. Green turtles, humpback whales (nyangumi), dolphins (pomboo) and a variety of fish also live in the ocean nearby.
The wildlife in Saadani includes four of the ‘Big Five’, namely lions, African bush elephants, buffaloes and African leopards. Other animals found here include Masai giraffes, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, common waterbucks, blue wildebeests, bohor reedbucks, common and red duikers, Dik-Diks, yellow baboons, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, black-and white Colobus monkeys, civets, mongooses, genet cats, porcupines, sable antelopes, warthogs, hippos, etc. Firefly Guesthouse Mid-range hotel located just outside Saadani NP. Day 4: Mikumi National Park
After breakfast and check-out, you will be transferred via taxi to Mikumi National Park. The drive will last four to five hours and take you through beautiful African scenery. You will be surrounded by the first rays of sunlight shining on the fluffy grass heads and rippling across the plain in a russet halo. Your overnight will be at the lodge. Day 5: Mikumi National Park
Today you will go on a full day game drive in Mikumi National Park, which abuts the northern border of Africa’s biggest game reserve – the Selous – and is transected by the surfaced road between Dar es Salaam and Iringa. It is the most accessible part of a 75,000 square kilometre (47,000 square mile) tract of wilderness that stretches east almost as far as the Indian Ocean.
Mikumi contains a subspecies of giraffe that biologists consider the link between the Masai giraffe and the reticulated or Somali giraffe. Other animals in the park include elephants, zebras, impala, eland, kudu, black antelope, baboons, wildebeests, buffaloes and more than 400 different species of birds. There are two artificial pools inhabited by hippos about 5km north of the park. The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the popular centerpiece of Mikumi, draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains. Accommodation: Tan-Swiss Mid-range guest house located just outside Mikumi
Day 6: Selous Game Reserve
After breakfast you will be transferred via taxi to Africa Safari Camp at the Selous Game Reserve. The drive will take about four hours and will allow you to see a variety of bush and local villages. Check in at the Africa Safari Camp and use this evening off to get ready for your game drive in the reserve tomorrow. Africa Safari Camp Luxury lodge located inside Selous GR. Meals Plan F/B
Day 7: Selous Game Reserve
Eat an early breakfast and then make your way into the Selous Game Reserve at 6:30am. You will spend the full day driving in a special 4X4 open safari vehicle with a professional driver and guide.
During this game drive you can expect to see and learn about a large variety of animals, including all the great favorites – lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra – and other major species, including a assortment of birds and the now rare African hunting dog. This park features wonderful scenery with varied topography: wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest and higher ground with long views to far-off mountains.
You will eat a packed lunch and enjoy some time to rest in the afternoon. Your guide will select a location with shade and water nearby to watch animals coming to drink – a place with a clear view all round so that no predator can creep up unseen! You will head back to the lodge at 6:30pm to enjoy a relaxing evening. Africa Safari Camp Luxury lodge located inside Selous GR
Day 8: Selous Game Reserve
Today you will go on a boat safari along the Rufiji River, which is complete birders paradise! Over 440 bird species have been recorded here; including the rare Pel’s fishing owl and white-backed heron. Selous is the only game reserve in Tanzania that offers river boat safaris.
Your boat safari will be followed by a village tour to discover the local culture. You will also go on a walk with a Bushman across the reserve’s environment to learn about traditional trees used for medicines, identify various animals’ footprints and look out for small animals that cannot be seen during game drives. Afterwards you will return to the camp to relax. Accommodation: Africa Safari Camp Luxury lodge located inside Selous GR. Meals Plan F/B
Day 9: Selous – Dar Es Salaam
After breakfast you will check out from the Africa Safari Camp and be transferred to Dar es Salaam to your hotel or your desired drop off point: the airport, ferry port or other address in the city.
