10 Days the Serengeti Migration Safari
Take a private safari to the best of all the east African national parks. Depending on the time of year, you’ll have the chance to see the great migration in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Take in the wonders of the amazing Ngorongoro Crater, the world famous Serengeti National Park, Tarangire’s gigantic Baobab trees and huge elephant populations, and the tree climbing lions of Lake Manyara& Masai Mara Game Reserve. The tour starts in Arusha and ends in Nairobi. Along the way you’ll have countless adventures in your own animal tracking vehicle, traveling the wild African savanna in search of big game. Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) – Arusha
Upon arrival, I will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) with our driver guide. Afterwards, we will drive to your hotel in Arusha, at the appropriate time I will conduct your safari briefing. Whichever you choose, tonight you can sit back, enjoy your dinner and settle into the African way of life. 1st night at Impala Hotel Arusha on half board basis, driving time from Kilimanjaro international Airport to Arusha town is approximately 40 minutes.
Day 2: Arusha –Tarangire National Park
After breakfast from Ilboru Safari Lodge, with packed lunch boxes, you will depart for Tarangire National Park, Tanzania’s third largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including lion, leopard, and cheetah and up to six thousand elephant. Drive to Mto wa Mbu village for Dinner and overnight at Tarangire Sopa Lodge
Day 3: Tarangire National Park – Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast from Tarangire Sopa Lodge, you will depart for Lake Manyara. Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, the park is recognized for its incredible beauty. You can see many game animals such as buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo and others.
Eventually you will arrive and stay overnight at beautiful Lake Manyara, which Ernest Hemingway once called the “The loveliest lake in Africa.” The national park is home to the unique tree-climbing lions of Lake Manyara, which you’ll have the chance to see lounging in the high tree branches. Drive to Karatu village for dinner and overnight at: Bougainvillea Safari Lodge.
Day 4: Lake Manyara (Karatu Village) – Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast from Sun bright hotel, you’ll depart Mto wa Mbuto Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you’ll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a wonderful game drive and picnic lunch. The inside of the crater is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the highest wild animal densities worldwide. Among the species are lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. You might expect to see the ‘Big Five’ in one day! Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast you will start on your way to Serengeti National Park (driving time some 4 hours, but with plenty to see on the way!) On the way you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries, contributing to the theory that human life originated in Africa. En route you will see grazing zebras, antelopes and giraffes and sometimes some buffalos hiding in the bush. The South Serengeti ecosystem belongs partly to the Serengeti National park and partly to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds you can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species. After the game drive, you enter the Serengeti National park and drive to your lodge at Serengeti Sopa Lodge in Serengeti, where you arrive in time for your dinner.
Day 6 – 7: Full day game drive in Serengeti – Endless Plains of the Serengeti
Early start today; for an early morning game drive to see also nocturnal predators returning from hunting and animals waking up in early morning light. You can take breakfast boxes with you and have a bush breakfast when the sun is up before you visit the interesting documentation center about Serengeti at Seronera. Return to your camp for a relaxed lunch under the shade of an old acacia tree.
In the afternoon you can go out again on game drives or undertake a nature walk around the camp with some resident tribesmen. They are happy to share their knowledge of plants and animals surrounding them and introduce you into their use of traditional bow and arrow for hunting. There is an optional hot-air balloon safari (not included in the package cost), which will take place in the morning, just as the sun rises. You’ll float in whichever direction the morning winds take you. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon; at times he will ascend to 1000′ or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Serengeti. After the landing you celebrate with champagne and a full English breakfast prepared and served in the bush in ‘Out of Africa’ style. After breakfast you receive your Serengeti balloon certificate and drive back to your lodge or proceed with your day’s activities and game drives around the Serengeti. Day 8: Serengeti National Park – Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast, you will drive to Masai Mara with stopover at the Great Rift Valley. We continue driving on through Longonot and Suswa and on to the Western walls with another stopover at Narok for re-fuelling. We have lunch before arriving in the Mara in time for evening game drive in the Mara popular for the Big five (Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Buffalo and Rhinos). The team returns to Camp late in the evening just in time for dinner. A campfire gathering under the clear Africa’s Sky follows after dinner and overnight at Mara Sopa Lodge. Meal plan: Lunch and Dinner.
Day 9: Masai Mara – full day Game drive
After breakfast at your lodge, depart for a full day game drive at Masai Mara National park. You will take a picnic lunch in the bush and have the opportunity to see the ‘Big Five’ and any wildlife you may not have spotted on your first game drives. There is an optional hot-air balloon safari (not included in the package cost), which will take place in the morning, just as the sun rises. You’ll float in whichever direction the morning winds take you. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon; at times he will ascend to 1000′ or more to see the enormity and wonderful panorama of the Masai Mara. Day 10: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Nairobi International Airport.
After an early morning breakfast you will have a game drive en-route to Nairobi City. You will have stop-overs in the towns to give you a chance to buy souvenirs. You will arrive late in the afternoon. Afterwards you will drive to the Airport.
